School plan could save taxpayer dollars
Kalispell school board members met Tuesday night to discuss moving forward with the approved elementary school bond.
The board voted on a design, bid, and build plan which they said is the most cost-effective for the district. This will put the Peterson and Edgerton Elementary Schools and the central kitcen projects into three separate bids.
The board will eventually choose the lowest, but most qualified bidder for each project. Superintendent Darlene Schottle said this plan might save residents a bundle.
"We don't know exactly what the bidding climate is right now but it seems to be fairly competitive," Schottle explained. "So we think that will help us with the overall cost of the project and get us the lowest bid possible from the bidder that we feel can best do the job for us."
Schottle anticipates breaking ground by January with an opening date in August 2013, right before school starts.
