Authorities say Montana's largest wildfire has destroyed a communications tower in southeastern Montana.

Fire information officer Mary Fritz says the tower on Little Wolf Mountain burned down Monday. It housed communications equipment for the Montana Highway Patrol.

Highway Patrol Maj. Tom Butler says the fire knocked out voice communications between Helena dispatchers and troopers in parts of nine counties. But he says the patrol was able to restore those communications through local law enforcement agencies without any loss of response time.

The Rosebud complex of six wildfires burning on and near the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation was 270 square miles Tuesday.

There are 885 people assigned to the Rosebud complex. Red-flag conditions are expected to challenge firefighters again Tuesday with high temperatures, low humidity and wind gusts of 30 mph.
