Republicans seek business tax cuts
LEWIS AND CLARK COUNTY
Republican leaders are pitching their plans to cut business equipment taxes and to include fossil fuels in the clean energy tax break.
The Senate Taxation Committee listened to arguments Wednesday on both bills, but took no immediate action.
Republican leaders are seeking to extend the so-called "clean and green" tax credit to all new power plants. They said it is unfair to pick one energy source over another.
Critics argue the incentive aimed at spurring wind energy should not include coal or gas.
There were no opponents for the Republican plan to cut in half the tax on the first $10 million of business equipment.
Gov. Steve Bullock's office has pitched a plan to eliminate the tax altogether for business equipment under $100,000.
