Montana's state schools superintendent race is headed for a recount as incumbent Democrat Denise Juneau holds a lead of only one-third of one percent with most votes tallied.

The campaign manager for Republican challenger Sandy Welch said Friday she is preparing to request a recount possibly in each of the state's 56 counties once the vote is officially canvassed. That's expected in late November.

The Secretary of State reports Juneau leading by 1,610 votes out of more than 460,000 tallied. That could change as provisional ballots are counted in coming days, but is expected to stay within the margin needed for a recount.

Meanwhile, election woes continue in Yellowstone County, where officials on Friday still had not finished tallying up results on some ballot questions three days after the election.
