HELENA, Mont. -

The director of a group that fought Montana's campaign finance laws in court has resigned to take a job with a Texas congressman.
Donny Ferguson, executive director of the American Tradition Partnership, told Lee Newspapers of Montana on Thursday that he was leaving the group to become a spokesman for Republican Rep. Steve Stockman.
ATP is probably best known for its legal challenges of Montana election laws, one of which led to the U.S. Supreme Court's June decision striking down a 1912 law that banned direct expenditures by corporations for or against candidates.
Critics argue ATP is a "dark money" group that intentionally hides its electioneering efforts. A Montana judge last month sanctioned the group for failing to provide information on its activities.
