Officials have released the name of a 38-year-old Meridian man who was shot to death after police say he approached them with a large knife.
Meridian Police Chief Jeff Lavey says four Meridian officers fired at Eric Dilworth late Monday after responding to a report of a suicidal man.
Lavey said Dilworth came out the back door of his apartment holding a knife, and did not follow orders to put it down as he continued to approach the officers. The Ada County coroner's office said Dilworth died of multiple gunshot wounds, but the coroner and police would not say how many times he was shot.
Dilworth's girlfriend, Sandi Kateley, told the Idaho Statesman that Dilworth's brother called police on Monday for help to calm him down because he was upset.
