New restaurant to bring Brazilian flavor to downtown Missoula
It started out as a university competition for a young entrepreneur, now it's on the way to becoming a restaurant in downtown Missoula.
"It was a statewide business plan competition and I won that,” said owner Tom Snyder.
From there 24-year-old Snyder knew it had to be a reality, now it's his life.
“It’s constantly in your head of what you're missing, what you still need to get done,” said Snyder.”So it’s an ongoing, fun and exhausting experience.”
It’s called Five on Black. Snyder says the name comes from the build your own style. Diners will get to pick five different ingredients to be served on top of black beans, rice, or sweet potatoes.
Snyder originally had plans to grab a spot in the old Macy’s building, but when that fell through he went after the former Runner’s Edge spot on North Higgins. While it’s still under construction inside, in just two and half weeks the restaurant has come a long way.
And there's lots of local flavor going into it. From the boards on the walls that are recycled from other building it town, to the tables that are being constructed by a local company, it's very Missoula. And the location was key for Snyder.
“There's a lot of money that is being put in to downtown to kind of revitalize it so I think it's the perfect spot for just a really fresh, inexpensive, fast, healthy dining experience.”
It's that experience and award winning idea that has Snyder anxious to be up and running. He’s shooting for the first week in April.
