New downtown Missoula officer set to begin patrols
MISSOULA, Mont. -

A 13-year veteran of the Missoula Police Department will start his new job on April 1, as a dedicated downtown police officer. Andy Roy says the main goal of his job is to reduce impacts of offenses perpetrated by Missoula’s transient population, and to help keep businesses in downtown flourishing.

Roy says he will be keeping a close eye out for offenses like disorderly conduct and aggressive panhandling.

“There are people that have dedicated their lives to have a successful business…and I’ll do everything within the laws and the city ordinances to minimize those negative impacts,” said Roy.

The position is funded by the Missoula Police Department, the Downtown Business Improvement District of Missoula, and the Missoula Parking Commission. The job will run through December 31.
