Sen. Max Baucus' office says the Montana Democrat will recommend a state Supreme Court Justice and a Billings district court judge to fill two open federal judgeships.
Baucus is recommending that District Judge Susan Watters take U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull's seat and that Supreme Court Justice Brian Morris replace U.S. District Judge Sam Haddon of Great Falls.
Baucus' office announced the recommendations Monday based on the conclusions of a nine-member committee led by Max Davis of Great Falls.
Haddon took senior status on Dec. 31 and Cebull is taking senior status next Monday.
Baucus will send the recommendations to President Barack Obama, who makes federal judicial nominations. The nominees must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
