The Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission has voted unanimously to keep the Madison Buffalo Jump near Three Forks in the State Park system.
Commissioners on Thursday made the decision following a flood of public comments and an $18,000 grant from the Lee and Donna Metcalf Charitable Foundation.
Montana State Parks had proposed turning over management of Madison Buffalo Jump State Park near Three Forks to the state Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.
That agency, which owns most of the site, asked the parks division to pay $4,272 annually with a slight increase each year. The DNRC must meet a legal requirement to make money from its state trust lands.
State Parks is a division of FWP.
