A state health official says this flu season is shaping up to be Montana's worst since 2009.
Department of Public Health and Human Services spokesman Jon Ebelt says one person has died and 57 people have been hospitalized with the flu as of Jan. 4.
The person who died was over 65 years old.
Montana is one of 47 states where influenza is considered widespread. Cases have been reported in all but 18 of Montana's 56 counties, and the number of cases is expected to increase for at least a few more weeks.
Ebelt says no shortages in flu vaccines have been reported, but he encouraged those who want to be vaccinated to call ahead to make sure the vaccine is readily available.
