The longtime warden of the Montana Women's Prison has resigned.
Jo Acton did not give a reason for her decision in her two-sentence letter of resignation submitted Monday.
She writes that she has appreciated the opportunity to work with the Department of Corrections' talented staff and that they will many accomplishments in the coming years.
Acton was hired as warden in 1995. Department spokesman Bob Anez says she was placed on paid administrative leave March 13 pending a review of prison operations as a result of a personnel matter.
Anez says) he does not know whether Acton's resignation is related to the review and says it was her own decision.
She plans to leave the position April 19.
