A 48-year-old Missoula man has pleaded guilty to fraudulently collecting more than $25,000 in Social Security disability payments while failing to report money he made running a medical marijuana growing operation.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says Scott Lee Hubeny pleaded guilty Thursday to theft of government money during a hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah C. Lynch in Missoula. Sentencing is set for May 2.
Hubeny pleaded guilty to fraudulently receiving the benefits between April 2010 and September 2011. Bank records indicated Hubeny deposited nearly $38,000 into his bank accounts from January 2010 through April 2011, not including his monthly $1,400 disability payments.
Hubeny's grow operation was raided in June 2011 and officers seized 243 marijuana plants and nearly five pounds of marijuana.
