BUTTE, Mont. -

A 34-year-old Missoula man is charged with attempted deliberate homicide after another man was stabbed in the neck last week north of Butte.

It was the second time in three months that Michael Root was charged with attacking someone with a knife. Court records alleged Root stabbed the victim in the neck shortly on the afternoon of July 27. Prosecutors allege Root was trying to kill the victim, who was hospitalized for several days. Root was arrested Thursday and appeared in Justice Court, where his bail was set at $150,000. Root was on probation after being given a suspended sentence on July 19 for cutting another man in the arm in May.

The victim believed Root was trying to cut his jugular vein
