Every Christmas tuba players from around the world gather to play in the holidays with seasonal music.

It's a tradition started nearly four decades ago and Friday night in Missoula local tuba players kept the tradition alive.

The sound of nearly 100 tubas filled the Southgate Mall Friday evening for the 23rd year that Missoula has participated in Tuba Christmas.

Musicians shared the joy of Christmas brass with all who came to the mall to listen.  Tuba players from around the state came to join in and they drew a sizeable crowd.

They played holiday tunes like "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," "O’ Holy Night," and many other traditional Christmas songs.  Folks we talked to said "If you haven't caught a Tuba Christmas yet, it's time!"

Missoula high school student Riley Bahin says it’s his tradition to play in Tuba Christmas every year.   “I think my first year doing this was in the seventh grade, so I joined in many times.”

If you missed the performance and want a chance to listen to some live, classic Christmas tunes, it's not too late.

Tuba Christmas will be celebrated in Billings Saturday, December 15th and in Kalispell Monday, December 17th.
