A standoff in Billings came to a violent end when one of the suspects hit a police officer with his own patrol car and the officer fired several shots at the car.
The 29-year-old Billings man who was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of burglary after an hours long standoff was handcuffed and in the back seat of the running patrol car when he somehow climbed into the front seat and started driving.
Police Chief Rich St. John says the car hit Officer Dave Punt, who fired several shots. The car stopped after hitting other vehicles.
Paramedics performed CPR on the suspect and he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect's wife also was arrested in the burglary. Their names have not been released.
