A Kalispell man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for firing 15 rounds from an AK-47 rifle at a Flathead County sheriff's deputy last year.
Bryson Connolly apologized to Deputy Roger Schiff at his Dec. 17 sentencing hearing.
Schiff tried to pull Connolly over Aug. 19, 2011, after receiving a report the 19-year-old had threatened another person with the semi-automatic rifle.
Prosecutors say Connolly got out of his vehicle and fired at Schiff, who was not hit.
Connolly pleaded guilty in a deal in which prosecutors dropped two assault charges.
Judge Stewart Stadler sentenced Connolly to 40 years in Montana State Prison, with 30 years suspended for attempted murder.
He also will serve a concurrent 10-year sentence on an assault charge.
