A Hamilton man who told investigators he "snapped" and elbowed his wife in the temple during a night of drinking and arguing at a motel has pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide in her death.
47-year-old Douglas Charles Reynolds entered his plea Thursday before District Judge James Haynes. Reynolds remains jailed on $250,000 bail.
Court records say Reynolds told Hamilton police that he "freaked out" when he woke up "to find a dead wife" in the motel room.
Emergency responders found 40-year-old Jessica Hawkins on the floor on Nov. 11, breathing but unresponsive. She died two days later at a Missoula hospital after being removed from life support.
Court records say Reynolds' blood-alcohol level was 0.252 and Hawkins' was 0.342.
