A rock on U.S. Highway 12 near Lolo caused a crash that was nearly tragic, but thanks to some good Samaritans only wound up disrupting a postal carrier's appointed rounds.
    
The Montana Highway Patrol says a mail carrier driving a sport utility vehicle struck a rock Monday afternoon, popping the tire. The SUV went off the road and landed upside down in Lolo Creek.
    
A passing motorist pulled the woman out of the water and another couple wrapped her up in a sleeping bag. She suffered some scratches and bruises.
    
The U.S. Postal Service, Missoula County sheriff's deputies and troopers helped gather the mail from the vehicle. Some mail floated away, but Lolo Postmaster Jeanee Mooney says it didn't scatter far. The mail was loaded into another mail truck to resume its delivery.
