Bozeman Fire Department Captain Keith Johnson says an accident in a second floor kitchen could be behind a Wednesday night fire.
The fire broke out just before 11 p.m. at an apartment building on the 800 block of West Villard St.
According to the fire department, initial findings point to cooking oil on a stove that ignited.
Insurance investigators still need to go over the scene before a final cause is determined.
No one was seriously injured. But the fire did displace 23 people.
