The Idaho House has agreed to legislation allowing anyone getting a concealed weapons permit to get a free copy of the background check done by law enforcement.
The bill passed by the House Friday was drafted by Nampa Republican Rep. Christy Perry.
She pursued the legislation after one of her constituents applied for and was granted a permit to carry a concealed weapon. But Perry also says the applicant was given mixed signals after requesting a copy of their background check.
Perry said the measure doesn't infringe on any federal laws prohibiting police from handing out copies to individuals under criminal investigation.
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
