Republican Rick Hill says he has no regrets about his two-year campaign for governor that ended in a loss to Attorney General Steve Bullock.
    
The former congressman says he always considered himself the underdog because he had been out of politics a decade
    
Hill says there were several factors that contributed to his loss.
    
He believes Democrats effectively portrayed him as a sales tax advocate even though he hasn't backed such a position in years. He says that helped suppress Republican votes and drive some voters to the Libertarian ticket.
    
Hill says the attacks drowned out his detailed plans for the state and superior debate performances.
    
He has no plans to jump back into politics and is instead reflecting on the race, enjoying family and managing real estate investments.
