Hill campaign cancels ads, polling, travel
LEWIS AND CLARK COUNTY
Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Hill's campaign has had to freeze all media advertising, polling and travel to comply with a judge's order not to spend a disputed $500,000 donation.
Campaign manager Brock Lowrance says the campaign has gone dark on television, radio and the Internet since last Thursday. That's when District Judge Kathy Seeley issued a temporary restraining order against spending the Montana Republican Party donation.
Lowrance testified Monday as Hill's opponent, Democratic Attorney General Steve Bullock, is asking Seeley to issue a preliminary injunction preventing Hill from spending the money for the election.
Hill says the donation was legal because it was made after a federal judge ruled state campaign contribution limits unconstitutional. Bullock argues Hill must give the money back since an appeals court has blocked that ruling.
