A federal grant is allowing the drug treatment court in Lewis and Clark County to expand.
District Judge Jim Reynolds says the First Judicial District received $343,000 in new funding to fully implement its treatment court.
The three-year grant came from the Department of Justice and was awarded to the Montana Supreme Court on behalf of the local court.
Reynolds says the court will now handle 25 offenders at a time. He says a small-scale version of the program has been effective.
The drug court allows offenders to remain out of jail or prison by focusing on chemical dependency treatment and direct accountability with routine appearances before the judge.
