A new task force charged with developing recommendations to improve public education in the state is poised to begin its work.
The 31-member group is expected to convene for the first time Friday in Boise.
Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter proposed the idea last month and asked the State Board of Education to appoint members, lead the discussion and develop a series of recommendations in time for the 2014 Legislature.
The group's work comes in the wake of voters rejecting in November a series of education laws included in the Students Come First overhaul approved in 2011. Those laws dealt with merit pay for teachers, rollbacks in collective bargaining for teachers and adding technology into classrooms.
The committee includes teachers, lawmakers, academics, school administrators and members of the teacher's union.
