BILLINGS, Mont. -

Authorities on Sunday announced they plan to lift a mandatory evacuation order for 48 cabins and vacation homes in north-central Montana near Augusta on Monday morning.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton says the evacuation order for the Benchmark Road Corridor enacted July 31 could be put back in place if fire activity from the Elbow Pass Complex of fires again threatens the area.

Firefighters have been making progress elsewhere as well, with the Rosebud Creek Complex that has scorched about 270 square miles listed on Sunday as 88 percent contained. Estimated cost to date of fighting that fire is $7.5 million.

Meanwhile on Sunday, firefighters were trying to contain the 328-acre Condon Mountain Fire four miles northeast of Condon with aerial ignitions along the fire's southeastern flank.
