An eastern Idaho jury has convicted an 82-year-old Rexburg man of sexually abusing a child younger than 16.
The Post Register reports (http://bit.ly/VYLcTy) that Ronald Bird was convicted Friday in 7th District Court and faces up to 25 years in prison.
Bird testified he wasn't at fault for the 2009 incident because the 4-year-old girl groped him. The jury of four men and eight women disagreed.
The girl, now 7, testified that Bird "commanded" her to do sexual things she didn't want to do.
If Bird is sentenced to prison, he would become the fifth Idaho inmate 80 or older in a population of about 6,500 inmates in Idaho.
