A pickup went off U.S. Highway 2 near an Interstate 15 on-ramp in Helena and struck a light pole on New Year's Eve, causing injuries that killed the driver.
Lewis and Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson says 47-year-old Darwin Simac (SY'-mac) of East Helena died at St. Peter's Hospital about 8:30 p.m. Monday, about 30 minutes after the crash.
Helena Police Chief Troy McGee says Simac was westbound and it appeared he started to turn north onto the interstate on-ramp, but then continued to go straight.
McGee says the pickup hit the curb, went airborne over a grassy area and then struck the light pole.
