LOLO, Mont. -

One fire in the Lolo area is out, but did some definite damage at a well known state park.

The aftermath of the fire at Traveler's Rest State Park off of Mormon Creek Road, is charred black grass. The burn covers about an acre and a half of the park.

Crews from Missoula Rural and Florence Fire Departments were able to get the blaze contained within about an hour. They're happy it didn't reach any of the parks structures.

“Obviously this is a landmark, and we want to preserve as much as we can in these areas,” said Acting Battalion Chief Blaine Cowan. “But the crews came in quickly and even without a whole lot of overhead command here initially they came in, did their job and fortunately knocked this thing down quick,” he said.
Cowan said it looks like the fire started near a tree in the park, but the cause is still under investigation.
