Gallatin County Commissioners voted to let taxpayers decide whether to increase the mill levy for the Mount Green Cemetery District.
The cemetery lies between Three Forks and Willow Creek on Meridian Cemetery Road.
The "yes" vote from commissioners means the county will hold an election in May to see if residents want to increase the mill levy by a little over five mills for folks in the cemetery district.
That's about $7.50 for a home with $100,000 taxable value and a little more than $15 for a home with $200,000 taxable value.
Folks with the cemetery say the money is necessary to help maintain the grounds.
"We're getting caught more and more with expenses we just don't have the money. We're getting quite a few complaints from, not our residents but, relatives of our residents that it's just not being kept up right," says Mount Green Cemetery Board Chair George Reich.
Reich says, in the past, they've sold a lot of graves which has helped. Yet, lately, he says they're selling a lot fewer graves in a year.
