Searchers combed the streets of Clinton Tuesday so a family, grieving the loss of their 8-year-old, doesn't have to lose their dog too.
Montana Highway Patrol troopers said a head on collision with an alleged drunk driver on Interstate 90 over the weekend killed 8-year-old Jacob Gamble. His younger brother and other family members, along with their dog Bella, survived the crash, but Bella disappeared shortly after.
When Clinton resident Dani Curliss heard about the accident, which occurred near the Clinton interchange, and the missing dog, she organized a search effort to find her.
"It really melted my heart,” said Curliss. “I was a little bit nervous that we would not have anybody. I'm mainly doing this for the family. I just want them to know that we're doing everything we can that they can't do right now."
More than 30 volunteers spread out to look for Bella.
The search came up empty so far, but searchers also put up missing-dog posters and asked people living in the area to be on the look-out.
The group has a Facebook page to help with the search efforts, you can visit it here.
