The Judicial Nomination Commission is seeking applications for a District Court judgeship in eastern Montana following the death of District Judge Gary Day of Miles City.
The commission is accepting applications until March 27 from lawyers who have practiced law in Montana for at least five years and have lived in the state for the past two years.
Applications are available at http://courts.mt.gov and must be submitted electronically and in hard copy.
The commission will forward the names of three to five nominees to the governor for appointment. The appointee will serve until January 2015. The post will be on the ballot in 2014 and that successful candidate will serve the remainder of Day's term, which expires in January 2019.
The 16th judicial district covers Carter, Custer, Fallon, Garfield, Powder River, Rosebud and Treasure counties.
