Missoula's police chief says an officer used reasonable force when he shot fleeing suspect in the arm after his partner was run over by the car.
Chief Mark Muir said Thursday an investigation of Lt. Rich Stepper's use of force found it was reasonable and within department guidelines. Muir says Stepper has returned to work.
He was placed on paid administrative leave after he shot 47-year-old Dawnette Eaton in the arm as she drove away after Officer Deni Poling was struck by a car on Jan. 7. The officers had been trying to arrest Eaton on a probation violation.
Eaton was arrested several hours later and faces several charges, including assault with a weapon.
Muir says Poling was seriously injured and is recovering at home.
