Butte police say a 23-year-old man was accidentally shot as he tried to break up a fight between two people.
Capt. Jerome McCarthy says the shooting happened in a home Sunday at 1 a.m.
Butte Undersheriff George Skuletich says the man was shot while breaking up a fight between two other men in the home. Skuletich says one of the men had a .40-caliber handgun but didn't point it at anyone.
The victim was hospitalized with wounds to his hand and abdomen.
No charges have been filed and police have not released the names of anybody involved.
Skuletich says alcohol was a factor.
