HELENA, Mont. -

Fish, Wildlife and Parks game wardens could be getting a pay raise regardless of what happens to other state employees.
The Senate Finance and Claims committee fine-tuning the proposed state budget made the change Monday.
Wardens would get a 6 percent pay raise under a change proposed by Republicans leading the panel. Supporters say wardens need to be brought up to a level closer to other law-enforcement positions.
A proposed pay raise for other state employees who have been working under a salary freeze is moving separately through the Legislature.
Republican leaders are hoping the state's main budget that allocates roughly $9 billion in state and federal money will be ready for floor votes later this week or next week.
