Whitefish Mountain Resort staff are reporting an increase in lodging bookings over last year. Officials say the boost comes in at 14 percent.
The resort opened for the season on December 8, and currently has more than 65 inches of snow at the summit. The president of the resort, Dan Graves, says the early snow conditions have been some of the best he can remember in 20 years.
It’s not just the staff that are happy about the influx of snow fans. Businesses down the mountain reap the benefits too. NBC Montana caught up with one of the owners at the Backdoor General Store in downtown Whitefish.
“When they’re full, we’re full, and I think the thing that I notice mostly is the folks up there, when they’re skiing, they get a little tired of being up there. They get fatigued, or maybe bored. Too much of anything sometimes is enough and so they end up coming down here and shopping…” said co-owner Trini Carreon.
