Apple share event reminds neighbors to be bear aware
A Missoula organization hosted an event Sunday to help keep bears out of backyards.
It was the first annual ‘Bear Aware, Apple Share’ event. It's a project designed to help residents in the Rattlesnake and other bear-prone neighborhoods, find solutions to keeping bear attractants like fruit minimized.
People from around the neighborhood donated their apples and other fruit to make cider and other treats at Ten Spoon Winery. They also learned about ways to keep bears out.
“By picking apples and removing an attractant from bears we reduce the potential for bear-human conflicts in the Rattlesnake Valley,” said Jill Alban from the Rattlesnake Creek Watershed Group.
