Annual visitation up at state parks in Montana
LEWIS AND CLARK COUNTY
Officials with Montana State Parks say annual visitation to state parks in 2012 was up 7 percent compared to the previous year.
Administrator Chas Van Genderen says that in 2012 state parks drew more than 2 million visitors.
Van Genderen says Montana residents and out-of-state visitors understand that state parks offer an affordable place to enjoy such activities as camping, hiking and fishing, and that visitors can also learn about Montana's heritage.
Officials tell the Independent Record (http://bit.ly/WAqCT0) that 77 percent of visitors to state parks were Montana residents.
Giant Springs State Park in Great Falls drew the most visitors of any state park with nearly 293,000 visits.
