Alleged pizzeria thief faces drug charges
A Montana man whose apparent reluctance to rob a pizza restaurant got him some free food and widespread sympathy is in trouble with the law again, this time for selling drugs.
33-year-old David Randall Lacey of Helena appeared in District Court Wednesday on a charge of attempted robbery. Police said a man entered a Papa John's restaurant on Jan. 22 and demanded money. He later told investigators he started crying and made up a story about a hungry family when he saw how little money was in the cash register. The clerk made him a pizza.
On Thursday, Lacey is scheduled to appear in court on four counts of distribution of drugs. Charging documents say Lacey sold methamphetamine to an informant four times in September.
