Authorities in northern Idaho have identified the woman who was found dead early Thursday along a set of railroad tracks in Sandpoint.
The Idaho State Police identified the victim as 28-year-old Erin M. Likkel of Huntsville, Ala. Her body and luggage was found near Sandpoint's Amtrak depot by a train crew.
Investigators say Likkel was walking southbound on the railroad tracks south of the depot when she was struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train also traveling south.
There is no crossing in the area where the body was spotted just before 3 a.m. about 200 feet from the depot. The track was closed about three hours for an investigation.
