Every weekday morning around 6, we'll hit the top five stories of the day and clue you in on a few other buzzy items.
Here are the "5 Things to Know for Your New Day" for this Wednesday.
1. TWA CRASH
Horrifying crash, explosive revelation:
Seventeen years ago, a TWA plane burst into a fireball over Long Island and killed all 230 people aboard. Now, six members of the team that investigated the disaster say the feds lied when they said a gas tank explosion caused it. True or not, this gives those who never bought that explanation another reason to say "I told you so."
2. OBAMA SPEECH
'Mr. President, tear down these nukes':
That's basically what Obama's going to ask Russian President Putin to do later today. This is a big deal. If both countries do what Obama's asking, it'll leave each of us with about 1,000 warheads -- still plenty. The location for this speech? Brandenburg Gate. The same place where Reagan made his historic plea to the Soviets.
The third time's a ... mixed bag:
The president just can't seem to catch a break this week.
A Monday poll: His approval rating's down.
A Tuesday poll: White House is behind IRS targeting tea parties, a growing number of you believe.
And now, this new poll: Economic conditions are good but many of you think you're worse off than a year ago.
In other words, American households don't necessarily see good news on Wall Street as good news for Main Street.
4. MODERN DAY SLAVERY
Forced to eat dog food:
A woman and her daughter are held captive, beaten, threatened with pit bulls. Every new detail that we learn about this shocking story makes our stomach churn. Last night, one of the suspects' mother told CNN's Piers Morgan that none of this happened. Authorities insist otherwise.
5. CALIFORNIA FIRE
Have we learned nothing from Smokey Bear?:
There's a fire burning west of the Yosemite National Park. About 500 homes are under mandatory evacuation orders, but fire officials are making good progress. How did it start? Someone didn't fully put out a campfire. Oof!
Not everyone's heeding the call to get out of the fire's way. Remember Double Rainbow Dude? He tells CNN's iReport he's doubling down.
Those are your five biggies for the day. Here are a couple of others that are brewing and have the Internet buzzing.

Sidewalks are exploding in London!
