BUTTE, Mont. -- Butte-Silver Bow Public Works decided not to renew its contract with Helena company, Headwaters Cooperative Recycling.Instead all of the business will be done locally through A & S Metals. The people of Butte will notice two differences. One, recycling bins are now going to accept plastic. Two, the bins will no longer accept glass.Individuals who want to recycle glass will need to take it to the Butte-Silver Bow landfill.Officials with the Butte-Silver Bow Public Works feel the switch will benefit the whole community."It is a cost savings for our citizens, it saves us 14,000 dollars a year and also by allowing A & S to place their bins there they are directly benefiting from that revenue and that revenue stays within our community," Public Works Central Services Program Manager, Karen Hassler said. There are still four locations that have drop-off recycle bins. The Butte Civic Center, the vacant lot at the corner of Excelsior and Platinum, behind the U.S. Post Office on Dewey Blvd, and behind the National Center for Appropriate Technology building next to Hillcrest Elementary School.
