The Missoula Humane Society opened its doors to 10 dogs from eastern Montana in desperate need of a home.

Saturday night, the Humane Society received 5 adults and 5 baby puppies. They came from Wibaux, Montana. Officers there took about 100 dogs away from a home. Investigators report the Australian Shepherd mixes lived in filth and didn’t have enough food.

Workers say these dogs will need special care so they can find good homes. "They’re in veterinary care. Needs there are much higher than the average dog. They'll definitely need additional socialization and training," explains Missoula Humane Society Director Lora O’Connor.

The Humane Society is looking for foster homes for the some of the older dogs. The puppies will be up for adoption in eight weeks.
