A charity rating guide downgraded Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to a 'D' rating. They claim the nonprofit exhibits poor fund-raising practices and doesn't focus enough on victims' services. The American Beverage Institute is claiming MADD has changed its focus. The ABI thinks MADD back off of drunk driving education in favor of pushing a stronger agenda."They have become the modern day temperance movement. These are people who believe you shouldn't be allowed to have anything to drink prior to driving," says Sarah Longwell with ABI.MADD issued a public statement telling everyone the downgrade simply means it needs the public's help "more than ever."
