WHITEHALL, Mont. -

Fire bosses on the 19 Mile southwest of Whitehall say a major concern is keeping the fire away from Interstate 90.

Officials updated residents and evacuees at meeting Thursday morning in Whitehall.

Predicted winds and another red flag warning have fire managers particularly concerned about the fire’s northeastern edge. They say if conditions are right the fire could reach the interstate in less than an hour and easily jump all four lanes.

They told residents that nine structures are confirmed burned, but more are believed to have been affected.

Fire managers also say well over 100 homes remained threatened.

The 19 Mile fire’s burned more than 4000 acres. It is 2 percent contained.

Residents needing an escort back to their property should check in at the Whitehall ambulance barn in the morning.
