1920: Animator Jay Ward, best known as the creator of "Rocky and Bullwinkle," is born in San Francisco, Calif. Ward, who died of kidney cancer in 1989, was also known for producing animated series based on characters such as Dudley Do-Right, Crusader Rabbit, Peabody and Sherman, and George of the Jungle.
