A gunman opened fire at the Fort Hood military post in Texas on Wednesday, killing three people and wounding 16 before committing suicide. Take a look at some of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history.

Jan. 8, 2011: Jared Lee Loughner killed six and wounded 13, including then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, outside a grocery store in Tucson, Ariz. Loughner pleaded guilty in 2012 and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
