MISSOULA, Mont. -

More than 12,000 divas laced up their running shoes Saturday and hit the pavement for Missoula’s second annual Diva Days 5K.

The event kicks off breast cancer screening month in October.

"One of my aunts died of breast cancer, and her sister had breast cancer but survived it, so, that's why I'm running today,” said Leah Engebretson, just before the race started.

Community Medical Center in Missoula hosted the all-women race, and organizers said they saw a huge jump in participation this year over last year, with more than 1000 people pre-registering.

"It's awesome,” said Mary Windecker, Marketing Director for Community Medical Center. “This is a great event. We're having a wonderful time.”
