WHITEFISH, Mont. -

Dog lovers descended onto the Hugh Rogers Wag Park for an annual summer picnic and dog show. The park is named after a veterinarian who died in a 2009 plane crash.

The event started out as a simple picnic a couple years ago, but has grown, and included about fifteen vendors on Saturday. The event also featured raffle drawings and a dog show with categories including the biggest and cutest dogs.

The Alpine Animal Hospital and Invisible Fence of Western Montana put on the event. NBC Montana caught up with the President of the group that helped get the park built.

“I can’t think of a better place to have a dog,” said James Lockwood. “It’s one of the last great places on earth to live, and so almost everybody here has a dog.”
