MISSOULA, Mont. -

This week was another big first for the Montana grizzly softball program, which is now less than eight months from its inaugural spring season in the Big Sky Conference.

Thursday morning the incoming softball stadium broke ground at South Campus. The new softball complex will be nestled right by the current University of Montana soccer stadium and the Dornblaser track and field location.

“This is another first and we've got many more to come,” said Griz softball head coach Jamie Pinkerton at the ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday.  “It's real exciting and to break ground… it's becoming real really quick so we're excited."

On Friday some conceptual drawings were released by the University showing what the complex will look like when construction is all said and done.

The entirety of the field, with the exception of a dirt warning track, will be a synthetic surface which will help it stay maintained through the unpredictable and wet springs it will face in Missoula.
